Flag Change Ritual on Jagannath Temple,puri.

Jagannath temple is one of the tallest monuments in the country. height of about 214 ft with 10 acres of area, .The Chakra or Wheel is at top of the temple, made of eight types of metals, 11 ft. 8 inch. in length and circumference is 36 ft, the wheel is also called the Neela Chakra and top of  neela chakra  flag situated  other name PATITAPABAN BANA.It is strongly believed through ages that whoever ties a flag on the Neelachakra of the Lord Jagannath Temple, Puri ; the age-old wishes get fulfilled and receives the blessings of the Lord JAGANNATH.At evening time before sunsent everyday devotees gathered everyday to see this rituals .One of sevayat or priest called chunara sevayat perform this rituals everyday without interruptionsome video during flag change. It is very thrilling sight to see a person climbing such a high temple without any climbing gear or any other external support. He reaches the Neela chakra with the help of this. The entire breath taking exercise of reaching the Neela Chakra from the temple floor takes around 20 minutes. After climbing the Neela Chakra, he removes the old flags from the pole and ties the new ones. It is believed to bring luck if a piece of flag can be collected from the hands of the person, who hoisted the flag. The man starts distributing the flag or piece of the same among the pilgrims immediately after coming down from the top.
